The peculiar reason Massimiliano Allegri will be overlooked for the Chelsea job

Massimiliano Allegri is keen on replacing Maurizio Sarri as Chelsea manager, but his nationality could prevent him from getting the job.

That’s according to the Telegraph, who believe that Chelsea may not want to employ three consecutive Italian managers, thus ruling out Allegri.

While we don’t see it as a significant issue, Sarri’s predecessor, Antonio Conte, was also Italian, which leaves it looking unlikely that there’ll be a third.

Allegri is certainly the most qualified manager available so it would be bizarre to overlook him due to something so trivial.

While we are all appealed by the romance of Frank Lampard potentially taking the Chelsea job, there can be no denying that Allegri is more deserving.

If the club decide against appointing him due to the fact he’s Italian, it would prove that those at the top have lost sight of what’s actually important.

On a side note from all of the above, we remain hopeful that Sarri will stay.
