Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is not prepared to hang his boots up just yet – he’s just signed for Turkish outfit Trabzonspor!
There’s some players who depart Chelsea and scarcely cross our mind, but there’s others who will always be at the forefront. Mikel resides in the latter category.
We were intrigued by the Nigerian’s return to England to play for Middlesbrough last term, where he made 18 appearances in the Championship. However, his return to the country has been short lived.
Trabzonspor, who finished 5th in the Turkish first division last term, announced the signing of Mikel on their Twitter account. It’s a new challenge for the Chelsea cult hero.
Serbest statüde bulunan, Nijerya Milli Takımının kaptanı, Profesyonel Futbolcu John Mikel Obi ile kulübümüze transferi konusunda bir yılı opsiyonlu olmak üzere 2+1 yıllık anlaşma sağlanmıştır.

At a time when every player ever to pull on a Chelsea shirt is being linked with a backroom role at the club, we wonder if we could one day see Mikel return in the same manner Petr Cech has.
If he’s as calm and assured off the pitch as he is on it, his composure may well be useful to a club who are renown for making erratic and impulsive decisions…
