Danny Drinkwater may go down as one of the biggest transfer flops in history.
The former Leicester man arrived at the club a year after N’Golo Kante, to try and restore the well balanced central midfield partnership that stormed to the title. But first Antonio Conte and then Maurizio Sarri didn’t fancy him, and he’s ended up playing just 522 minutes since arriving at the club.
The Daily Mail have done the maths, and they reckon that given his £100,000 a week wages, and his £35m transfer fee, that means we’ve paid £85,440 per minute to the England capped midfielder.
In wages alone he’s received £9.6m, that alone is an appalling number. Reports have held that we’ve tried to loan him out over the last couple of years but haven’t found any takers – is that much of a surprise on those wages?
You might think we were ready to give up, but Sky Sports are now writing that Frank Lampard is willing to give him a chance to prove himself. We’d like to think that’s possible, and Danny is on the tour with the squad, but he’s got new competition in Mason Mount that he may not be able to get ahead of in the queue for game time.
