Chelsea journalist Nizaar Kinsella has picked out four things that ought to get Blues fans excited about life under Frank Lampard.
Lampard’s return to Chelsea was officially announced early on Friday morning, with the club finally finding their replacement for Maurizio Sarri.
The former Chelsea midfielder has just one season in management under his belt, which is unusual to see at a club of Chelsea’s size and stature.
However, what Lampard lacks in experience, he makes up in expertise. He enjoyed a brilliant year at Derby, narrowly missing out on promotion.
With limited resources, Lampard achieved a great deal during his debut season with the Rams, as Nizaar Kinsella seeked to explain on Twitter.
If you were concerned about Lampard’s Premier League readiness, he did defeat Manchester United and Southampton last term – and gave us a real battle.
He was also mightily close to bringing Derby back to the big time, which is presumably why club owner Mel Morris was so keen for him to stay on.
But perhaps most importantly, Lampard did not shy away from giving his youngest players an opportunity to shine, which is exactly what we need.
We can’t see a negative with this appointment.
