Frank Lampard has assured Chelsea fans that the coaching setup he is putting together at Stamford Bridge is not purely being based on sentiment.
With Lampard returning to Chelsea as manager, and Petr Cech and Jody Morris following suit, the Blues’ backroom is becoming increasingly filled with our own flesh and blood.
While every Chelsea fan will be delighted to see familiar faces back where they belong, we do need to ensure that we have coaching staff capable of coping with what lies ahead this campaign.
Lampard has assured fans that we will, and that his appointments are not solely based on connection with this club. The Chelsea head coach is quoted by the Mirror saying:
“It’s a very Chelsea orientated team but what I want to make clear is this is not an old boys club.”
“What I’m trying to put together with this staff is talent, it’s fresh talent in my eyes. We are relatively young but we are not inexperienced.”
“I may have only one year in management but in Jody, Joe and Eddie and Chris we have many years of coaching within us.”
If there’s one thing that we know about Lampard, it’s that he has his head screwed on straight. He’s a highly intelligent man and wouldn’t appoint anyone unless he saw their worth.
Rest assured, Blues, the man knows what he’s doing.
