According to the Telegraph, Frank Lampard is planning to merge the Chelsea first-team and academy in hope of bridging the gap between the two.
It’s been a major failing of Chelsea under Roman Abramovich. For all the success we’ve had, we have failed to integrate a considerable amount of academy players into the first-team.
Managers have tried and failed, with Abramovich’s lack of patience certainly not helping, but Lampard’s arrival could be an indication of the changing of the tides at Cobham.
The Telegraph report that Lampard will act to ensure that the senior and academy Chelsea players will no longer be separated at the club’s Cobham training ground.
It’s believed that he will allow the younger players to have the same meal times as the senior squad, which will allow them to mix with some of the best in the business, and learn as a result.
We are struggling to see a negative to appointing Lampard if his intentions are as the Telegraph reports. He could be the manager that we have been waiting for, or so we hope.
