The Telegraph have picked out four Chelsea youngsters who are hoping that they will be given an opportunity to impress under Frank Lampard.
Lampard’s arrival will be a boost to any young player hoping to make it at Chelsea, but there are those who are ahead of the pack, due to both their talent and what they have already proved on-loan.
As per the Telegraph, academy graduates Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James and Fikayo Tomori will all be hoping that Lampard will be the man to give them a shot at Chelsea.
Lampard managed both Mount and Tomori at Derby County, as well as facing up against Abraham and James throughout the course of the Championship campaign.
He will already have an understanding of what they’re capable of, but watching them train through pre-season and beyond will only develop that, which will work in their favour.
Nobody is asking for any of the four to be fast-tracked into the starting eleven, rather for them to be given the opportunities to show what they can do when it’s appropriate.
Maurizio Sarri, and many managers before him, failed to do that. We get the feeling that Lampard will ensure that he will not be yet another to shun the youth.
