We all know this Chelsea team is young. But the more time goes by, the more we realise just how significant the change we’re witnessing is.
According to the OptaJoe stat you can see embedded below, the goals from Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount mean that this is the first time two English players under 21 have scored in a game for Chelsea since Eddie Newton and Graham Stuart way back in August 1992.
21 – This is the first time two English players aged 21 or under have scored in a Premier League match for @ChelseaFC since 22nd August 1992, when Eddie Newton and Graham Stuart scored against Sheffield Wednesday. Throwback. #NORCHE pic.twitter.com/fUQ9T5ksUs

1992! That is a very very long time ago. Eddie Newton is a coach for us now! The Premier League had barely begun back then, and the influx of foreign players was only just starting. The fact we’re back to that now, all those years later in such a changed game is truly remarkable.
It’s going to be a rocky road, but making changes like this is never easy. We’re taking things back to the 90s – for better or for worse.
