Conor Gallagher has enjoyed a brilliant start to life as a Charlton Athletic player, and it got even better against Reading yesterday afternoon.
The reigning Chelsea academy player of the year was involved in the opening stages of our pre-season campaign under Frank Lampard, but it was clear that he needed a loan spell away from the club before he could be considered for first-team selection.
Reece James, having himself been named academy player of the year in the season prior, went out on loan to Wigan Athletic, and despite the Championship side battling relegation, established himself as one of the best players in England’s second tier.
After three goals in his opening four appearances, Gallagher has looked intent on replicating James’ success. He also added an assist to his tally yesterday afternoon against Reading.

Charlton sit second in the Championship table. If they, and Gallagher, are able to keep up their good run of form, this could be a season to remember for everyone involved.
