Chelsea’s xG map from Sheffield United draw tells familiarly frustrating story for Blues

Chelsea’s xG map from yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield United told a familiar story, and one that will no doubt be frustrating for manager Frank Lampard.

While in every single game we have played to date this season we have looked threatening in attack, our defence has looked flimsy and we have subsequently conceded bags of chances.

That has been reflected in our xG map for every game leading up to yesterday’s Stamford Bridge clash with Sheffield United, and it was no different versus the Premier League new boys.

You can see clearly, we are creating chances, and good quality chances too, but we cannot seem to stay tight enough at the back to avoid conceding chances of equal or similar quality.

You can pin it on Cesar Azpilicueta or whoever you wish, but we need to defend as a team and our transition from attack to defence has not been fluid enough.

Once Frank Lampard is able to sort that out, and the individual errors, of which there have been many, stop, we should be absolutely fine.
