Shock, horror. Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud scored for France against Albania last night, taking his tally for his country up to 36.
Giroud has soared past Zinedine Zidane and David Trezeguet in Les Bleus’ top goalscorer rankings, and with his strike last night closed the gap on Michel Platini to just five.
The Chelsea hitman will scarcely score an easier goal than this, having had it put on a plate for him, but they all count and it was a smart finish from the 32-year-old.

He’s got his work cut out if he wants to have any chance of catching Thierry Henry, but even so, Platini is in sight, and to be number two in the all-time list for a country like France is astonishing.
And they say that Giroud is not a goalscorer – which sport are they watching? He’s one of the most underrated forwards of his generation, and Chelsea are fortunate to have him.
