There was a nice moment between Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic and Frank Lampard yesterday afternoon which you may have missed amid all the drama.
Kovacic raced through on goal and fired just wide of Dean Henderson’s post, which will have been frustrating for the Croat, who is still yet to score a goal for Chelsea.
Lampard, who knows better than any midfielder ever what it takes to score goals for Chelsea, had a joke with Kovacic from the sidelines about how close he came to scoring.
It managed to put a smile on the face of the both of them, and even if they won’t have been smiling at full-time, it’s a reflection of how good a relationship Lamps has with his players.

We do hope that Kovacic’s first Chelsea goal, and the rest, is on the horizon, as we cannot continue to justify starting a midfielder who is completely unable to find the net.
