Frank Lampard reveals ‘great’ selection problem and says this man has pushed for more starts

As a manager in the English top flight football league, having squad depth is essential to how successful you can be.

Frank Lampard is finding out in his first season as a Premier League manager that having a lot of players is a ‘great’ problem to have.

Of course there is that risk of players becoming unhappy with lack of game time, as he is already experiencing with the likes of veteran striker Olivier Giroud.

But it also means that when players do get the chance to play they will be doing everything in their powers to keep that position in the line up, as Christian Pulisic did on Saturday.

The United States international got his first start for a little while and absolutely stormed it, scoring a perfect hat trick and putting in an excellent performance in The Blues 4-2 win over Burnley.

He got in ahead of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who would have been disappointed with losing his starting place. But what a great issue for Lampard to have to deal with.

The Blues boss has been addressing the selection situation, as reported by The Daily Mail.

“It is great for me [selection problem].

“I am delighted for him [Pulisic]. To see him come in and impact the game like he did. It lifts everybody around him.

“Of course, he gives himself a great chance of playing in the games coming up.”

“I am really pleased where we have got to. We have to be aware we can improve. Let everyone else talk but from within we have to know it is game by game and how we can get better day by day.”
