Why Frank Lampard is unlikely to risk Kante in crucial Champions League game despite return to training

N’Golo Kante will be back in full training in the next day or so, and will be hoping to return for next week’s game against Ajax.

That’s according to Frank Lampard, who spoke to the media after Chelsea’s loss to Manchester United yesterday.

In quotes carried by the Daily Mail he said that Kante is “hopefully going to join training in the next two or three days.”

That would certainly rule him out of this weekend’s match with Watford, and while Frank will be tempted to rush the Frenchman back for the group defining game against Ajax on Wednesday, we have our doubts that he’ll risk him for that either.

Kante has been brought back several times from injury this season, and it’s always proved to be premature. We think Lampard will want to see him in full training for a week before risking him with a start.

It will likely come down to a last minute decision, but given we were able to beat the Dutch side away from home without him, we think Frank will take the cautious route this time and do his best without the dominant central midfielder.
