Frank Lampard had a drink with Prince William (yes you read that right) this week, and they had some fun chatting about a transfer rumour that they made up.
Lampard was asked why the royal hadn’t used his powers to bend the rules and cancel the transfer ban.
“He probably thought I might try and buy John McGinn or something!” he joked in quotes carried by TalkSport, referencing the fine form of the midfielder, who plays for Aston Villa, the team the Prince supports.
McGinn has indeed been superb this season, and a big part of Villa’s success, and bigger clubs will come in for him if he keeps playing like this.
We’re not saying it was a Freudian slip, and Lampard was only having a laugh – but it does show he’s noted his form.
Unfortunately for McGinn there are so many talented young players at Stamford Bridge right now it’s hard to see where he fits in. But we have no doubt other top teams will be sniffing around. He seems like a Tottenham signing if ever there was one.
