Chelsea are gearing up to partake in Sky Sports Super Sunday this weekend as they face Southampton away in the 2pm kick off.
Frank Lampard’s side currently sit 7th in the Premier League having won 3, drawn 2 and lost 2 so far in a rather stuttering start to the season.
Whilst Southampton sit deeper at 14th having won 2, drawn 1 and lost 4 matches.
This is a match that Lampard will be looking to take all three points from despite being the away side. It certainly won’t be easy for Chelsea, but they should have the quality to push a win out of this match.
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas feels otherwise though. In his predictions for the matches this week via the Sky Sports website, Nicholas believes Chelsea will draw 1-1 with Southampton on Sunday.
He takes the angle that it is expected to be a season of ups and downs at Chelsea, due to bedding in a number of youth players.
He said:
“This is another good test for Southampton, who were decent against Tottenham.
“Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have been praised, and rightly so. Abraham has earned his first England call-up, rightly so too.
“Chelsea are sitting in seventh which is acceptable – it is tight at the moment. It will be a season full of ups and downs for the Blues and with lots of games coming up for their youngsters, it may just take its toll on occasions.”
Let’s hope he’s wrong!
