Why Chelsea cannot persuade goalscorer to stay at club this summer

Oliver Giroud looked certain to leave Chelsea in January, and when he didn’t it was questioned whether his relations with Frank Lampard his manager would be beyond repair.

Lampard had failed to back the France striker time and again, even when Tammy Abraham was out injured, and with Euro 2020 coming up the forward was desperate to play.

His move to Inter was blocked when Chelsea couldn’t find a replacement, and then against the odds Giroud found himself in the team, and scoring.

That’s where we left things this season, and because of that late spurt three have been some whispers that he’s had a change of heart and would like to stay.

But that looks hard to believe. He knows he got lucky this year with the delaying of the Euros, and also knows that Frank is always going to prefer Tammy when fit. Chelsea may even sign another striker this summer.

Not only that, but according to the Sun, Inter are ready to offer him 3 years on his deal, which Chelsea are not.

That will likely end up being the vital detail that ensures he’s not staying.
