Chelsea chariman backs Lampard after “very successful” first season

Chelsea’s 19/20 season is over, and we’ve now had takes from the manger, the players, pundits and many fans over how they thought the season went.

Now it’s turn of Bruce Buck, the club’s chairman, to weigh in on Frank Lampard’s debut season:

“In the round we think it was a very successful season,” Buck told the PA news agency in quotes picked up by FourFourTwo.

“I think obviously we would have been a little bit happier if we had won the FA Cup. But I’m sure the manager and the players were gutted not to lift the trophy.”

It was certainly disappointing to lose that game, and to end the season with that bitter taste in the mouth, plus the battering we took on Saturday night, makes it easy to forget the good times.

Buck would have been a key figure in bringing the new coach to the club, and given the backing that Lampard is getting from upstairs, he’s clearly happy with the progress he’s making.

Expectations will rise a notch next season, but there’s no doubting that we’re on the right track. As long as the guys upstairs keep faith with Frank, we’re so confident that things will get better and better.
