“They were seething” – How ‘fired up’ Chelsea players used Amartey insult to ‘punish’ Leicester City

Chelsea came out against Leicester City on Tuesday night like a totally different beast that lost 1-0 to them in the FA Cup final at the weekend.

Both clubs are fighting hard for that top four Champions League spot, and both clubs had a lot at stake on Tuesday night.

Chelsea are keen on signing Raphael Varane this summer, read more here.

Chelsea bossed the game on Tuesday and there was a look in the eyes of the players that made you know they were winning this match.

According to The Athletic, a lot of that was due to the incident from Saturday that saw Leicester’s Daniel Amartey throwing a Chelsea pennant dismissively to the ground during Leicester City’s post-match celebrations.

They say this left Chelsea’s players ‘fired up’ before the game and ready to ‘punish’ Leicester for this incident.

An Athletic source says, “they were seething at the contemptuous gesture. It was the talk of the dressing room in the build-up.”

It is great to see such a reaction and togetherness from the players, and you felt the anger in a scuffle in Tuesday’s match where a few of the Chelsea players appeared to have some choice words aimed in Amartey’s direction.

  1. If we will play better against a team and win, all because the team insulted us, then City must insult us too so that we can play better against them and win the Champions League. Because we have to win. In fact, we played rubbish against Leicester in the FA cup final and they punished us from the only chance they had in the game. We must be serious in each of our games and don’t sit for them to provoke us before we will then decide to play better and win against them in the name of revenge… SMH
