It’s that time of year where we get really overexcited about little transfer hints here and there, and those Twitter accounts who consider themselves “insiders” really know how to generate some hype from nothing.
In this case, it’s literally from nothing. Christian Falk of Sport Bild has just reported an exchange he and other journalists had with Erling Haaland, presumably at Dortmund’s preseason camp.
Haaland has been linked endlessly with a huge-money transfer to Chelsea in recent weeks, and the journalists decided to ask him directly about his future.
We asked @ErlingHaaland: „Are you staying at @BVB , Mr. Haaland?” He smiled and said nothing @ChelseaFC @BILD_Sport

They asked the striker “are you staying at Dortmund?” and he “smiled and said nothing.”
Now that doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but given Haaland could have crushed an entire summer of rumours by simply saying “yes, I’m staying,” the fact that he didn’t is significant.
There will be plenty more of this nonsense before this deal is ever concluded, so get used to it.
