What Marina Granovskaia wants she usually gets – but she met her match this summer in the form of Monchi.
The Sevilla director of football is known for his ability in scouting players and negotiating great deals for them, and this summer he was presented with a huge offer from Chelsea for defender Jules Kounde.
In the end, the Spanish club rejected the bid, for reasons that Monchi explained in quotes picked up by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter:
Sevilla director Monchi: “The proposal for Koundé last summer [from Chelsea] was great, the most important we received in our history – but it wasn’t meeting our price tag. Also, we received the bid in an inopportune moment”, he told Canal Sur Radio. 🔵 #CFC #Sevilla

So while the offer might well have been the biggest the Andalucians have ever received for a player, they still found themselves rejected by Chelsea.
Monchi explained that the timing – so late in the window – wasn’t right. And also that the fee wasn’t high enough, despite being “great” and the “most important” (i.e. highest) the club has ever received.
We’re sure Chelsea will be back next summer, perhaps with an even more “important” offer.
