As you’ll be fully aware of by now, Chelsea have a lot of contractual situations that they need to sort out this season to avoid losing four defenders on a free transfer come the summer.
Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Thiago Silva all have deals running out at the end of June next year, and they will all be free to talk to and agree to join new clubs as soon as January.

It’s not a great situation for the club to be in at all, and one in particular frustratingly took a u-turn for Chelsea, who believed that Christensen’s new contract extension was done.
Or at least that is according to The Telegraph journalist, Matt Law, who has been speaking on the London is Blue Podcast today.
Law says that from Chelsea’s perspective the deal was done, that was until a ‘big issue’ occurred from the player’s side of things.
🗣️ @Matt_Law_DT on Andreas Christensen's contract (🧵):
"From Chelsea’s perspective, the deal was done. But there has been an issue now from the player’s end. I don’t think it’s the player himself but there’s a big issue that’s caused a problem."

"From Chelsea's perspective, Andreas Christensen's deal was done. But there HAS been an issue at the players end. It should get done."
"My personal opinion, I think Rudiger will go. There's no progress. It feels like they're too far apart."
