Ousmane Dembele is ready to give something back to Barcelona to thank them for their loyalty to him over the past few seasons, according to the Sun.
The Frenchman’s contract expires next summer, and given his age (he’s still just 24) and his enormous talent, there have been links with top European clubs (including Chelsea) about a potential free transfer.
This would leave Barca – already crippled for cash – seriously out of pocket, and Dembele isn’t willing to do that. In fact, he’s ready to accept a new contract on a reduced salary – albeit with higher bonuses.
That’s repayment to the club who have paid his wages season after season while he has been troubled by injuries. Dembele came off the bench against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night as the Catalans tried to keep their head above water in the group, and we expect him to play a significant role at last this season.
