Callum Hudson-Odoi struggles to keep Tuchel’s faith despite strong run

Callum Hudon-Odoi must be feeling pretty hard done by at the moment.

He was happy to help the team by dropping in at wing back for a couple of games, even though it’s not his position.

Before that he’d been on his best run of starts in his young career so far. With the alternatives out injured, Thomas Tuchel was forced to give the winger the chance to shine on his preferred wing for an extended period, something Hudson-Odoi has never really had.

He looked great, and we assumed that the switch to wing back, and the rest against Zenit, were all part of a plan to keep him fresh going forward. That may well end up being the case, but as it stands it looks a lot like Timo Werner is being shoehorned into the team to play up with Romelu Lukaku.

Perhaps that’s the right call from Tuchel to get the best out of his big money striker, but CHO must be feeling there’s nothing he can ever do to start consistently.

  1. Whoever plays in the front 3 positions will be judged on goals and assists. Hudson Odoi did play fairly well but still isn’t clinical enough to hold down a place week in week out. Werner scored twice against Zenit and looked sharp and Mount scored in his previous 2 games so was an obvious choice against Leeds. Hudson Odoi was also poor when he came on so lets stop treating him like a child. If he delivers he’ll be in the team. Tuchel does this with everyone else so why should he be an exception?
