Chelsea agreed to three year Christensen deal – but player moved the goalposts again

The situation with Andreas Christensen’s contract seemed a straightforward one not long ago, but as time goes by its getting messier and messier, and we’re now seriously concerned about his long term future at Chelsea.

The latest reporting from the Athletic goes into some detail about how things have got to this. Christensen’s contract expires in the summer, and by September the club were very close to a deal with the player, and confident they would get it.

But while Chelsea pushed for a 5 year deal to keep him tied up long term, Christensen wanted more cash – or a 3 year deal that would allow him to get a raise a couple of years down the line.

That was the initial sticking point, and according to The Athletic’s reporting, Chelsea eventually agreed to the 3 year option – only to see that Christensen’s wage demands for that deal had risen again, as free agency loomed.

Every day that passes takes him closer to negotiating with other clubs, and it will be very hard to get him back under control after that.
