Juventus’ transfer move could set in motion major spending from Chelsea

The rumours about Matthijs de Ligt coming to Chelsea have been around for a while now, but we’ve not taken too much notice of them.

To us, the parts just haven’t added up. He’s a good player, but he cost Juventus big money and is on a big contract. Chelsea could afford him, but it would could cost major money, the type they’re reluctant to spent unless a true world class option becomes available.

But the situation in Italy may mean that the deal is walking in to them.

SportWitness this week report on the Old Lady’s burning desire to sign Duan Vlahovic of Fiorentina. In order to be liquid enough for that deal, they are apparently considering selling De Ligt, and that pressure to sell might be the vital factor in lowering his cost to a point where a compromise with Chelsea can be reached.

It still seems a long shot, but this would be one domino falling which could set off a whole chain.
