Roman Abramovich open to selling Chelsea for first time in 15 years; at least 3 parties interested

A week that has been intense and scary for Chelsea fans (let alone Ukrainians and Russians) is getting more crazy by the day.

The Daily Telegraph have just reported that Roman Abramovich is open to selling the club – for the first time since he bought it in 2003. That’s a seismic shift, given how comfortable he and Chelsea fans have been through that period.

Nothing is done yet, and it is much more a case of a door starting to creep open than anything being in the pipeline – but Matt Law does claim to know of “at least three parties circling” with an interest in taking Chelsea out of Abramovich’s hands.

The sanctions being placed on Russian businesses following the invasion of Ukraine are clearly having an effect, and following the announcement on Saturday evening that he’s stepping back from control of the club, it seems things have continued to move very quickly.

As Law points out though, those sanctions could actually be counterproductive if they create massive barriers for Russian businesses in selling off their UK based assets.

    1. Tell me, which assets belonging to Americans, British and the French were seized when these countries bombed Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya? Which one of these countries was sanctioned by UEFA and FIFA? Now they all feel human beings are dying. People from Asia and Africa are also human beings and you are not better than us.
Where were you when the Ukraine government was bombing Lugansk and Donbass. We are all human beings.

    2. Don’t be such an idiot, it’s not Abramovich sending troops to Ukraine!
      It’s Putin.
Abramovich is attempting to broker a stop to the bloodshed.

  1. welcome to my world
