Chelsea don’t just have to figure out who to sign this summer, they also have to figure out what to do with all the young players that were out on loan last season who will be back at the club next season.
That’s something Pat Nevin discussed in his column at the end of the season on the Chelsea website.
He pointed out that two players – Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah – made an “unexpected jump” this season, and that there are plenty of candidates to do something similar this season.
He named Ethan Ampadu, Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher, and we can see the logic of each. They all play in a position that we need strengthening, and they all spent this year playing regularly in a top 5 league.
Thomas Tuchel is almost sure to keep one around for the season to come. The race is on to be the one.
