It was announced on the Chelsea website earlier today that the deal to transfer the club to Todd Boehly and his Clearlake Capital group was agreed, and would be completed by Monday.
In the wake of that, we now have a final statement from Roman Abramovich as owner of the club, discussing the process of finding new owners and looking back on his time as owner.
The Russian thanks fans for their support and points to the legacy he has built as owner of the club for almost 20 years.
He wishes the new owners “the best of success, both on and off the pitch”, and explains what his goals were in choosing the group that would eventually take over from him.
He notes that all the success that he and the fans shared have lead to the vastly increase in the valuation of the club. That money, which Todd Boehly and his group have just paid, will be used to help “millions of people.”
