Bruce Buck will leave his role as chairman of Chelsea at the end of this month, the club announced today.
In a statement on the club website, Buck spoke of his pride in his work over 19 years, and backed Todd Boehly and the rest of Chelsea’s new owners to be a huge success.
Buck oversaw the most glittering span of success in the club’s history, with 18 major honours for the men’s team and 12 for the women’s team. His close ties with Roman Abramovich allowed the Russian to hit the ground running in English football.
There had been some talk of Buck staying on under the new owners, and it’s not clear whether this move was initiated by him or by them, but clearly this was the perfect moment for a clean break once the handover stage is complete.
It also very much brings into question the future of Marina Granovskaia, Abramovich’s other top lieutenant at the club.
