Chelsea academy graduate agrees new deal

Chelsea academy graduate Xavier Simons has agreed to a new contract with the Blues.

The midfielder’s contract was set to expire at the end of this month, but is set to sign a new deal.

This is according to Football London’s Adam Newson, who also mentions Simons had interest elsewhere including Premier League clubs.

He is seen as a bright prospect at Chelsea and trained with the first-team regularly last season.

For evidence, he made his Chelsea debut back in December in Chelsea’s 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Brentford. He played 65 minutes at right-wing back before being replaced by Reece James. He was also named on the bench for Chelsea’s FA Cup win against Chesterfield.

I think this is great news! After a successful individual season with the Development Squad, I think it’s best Simons goes on loan and gains regular first-team football elsewhere for next season. And if this goes smoothly, maybe he could push for a first-team spot with Chelsea.
