Gabriel Slonina is a name we hadn’t heard much about not long ago – but now it’s everywhere.
The Chicago Fire goalkeeper has been strongly linked to Real Madrid as well as Chelsea, and the two sides appear to be going head to head for the 19 year old’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano today has claimed that Madrid have already had an official bid rejected by Chicago, although he adds that Chelsea are still “in talks” to sign him – having been “really close” to completing the deal in February.
As Romano points out this is likely to be one of the record moves in MLS history, another high water mark of the rising tide of talent and money in the game in the United States.
What Chelsea would do with a third goalkeeper on their books isn’t certain, but it seems very likely that he would be sent on loan for multiple seasons at first.
