Billy Gilmour has had an option in his contract to extend it for another year activated by Chelsea.
The midifelder’s current deal was set to expire next summer, but will not run until 2024, giving the club more breathing room in deciding what to do with him.
A bad loan at Norwich has really set him back, but there’s still plenty of faith in his ability, and this season will be important for him.
After playing these last few games with Scotland, Gilmour will go on his holidays, then return and try to impress Thomas Tuchel in preseason.
We don’t at all rule out a season on loan again, hopefully at a better team than Norwich, and Everton have been linked. It’s also possible he stays in Tuchel’s squad as a rotation option, depending on what happens with our current options.
Either way, this all means we don’t have to worry about losing him on a free next summer.
