Inside Boehly’s first weeks at Chelsea

With the official arrival of new Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly on May 30th, many fans have been wanting to know how Boehly has started with life at the Blues. Well today we have been blessed.

Simon Johnson, from The Athletic has written a brilliant inside piece of Boehly’s first weeks at Chelsea.

Johnson highlights Boehly’s demands to hire ‘aggressively’ in the data analytics space and is keen to bring in six to eight people in this area.

As Boehly knew, he was going to be thrown straight into the action with the transfer window ahead and his first piece of transfer activity happened on 21st June, where he was key part of the negotiation to complete the sale of Romelu Lukaku back to Inter.

It is said Boehly approached the Lukaku deal with a “baseball mentality”, in which Boehly was open to a swap deal.

His argument was that if Inter wanted Lukaku then they should trade one of Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar or Denzel Dumfries.

Despite the American not being able to pull off an Inter player in return, the relationship between Boehly and Tuchel is said to already be ‘close’ and looks set to make a mark, where he has been phoning personnel from other clubs for transfer targets.

This piece really highlights from what Chelsea fans feel from the outside and that Boehly isn’t messing about, he is here to win.

We have already seen a complete hierarchy reshuffle, with the 48-year-old wanting to create a new vision of reaching the heights of Manchester City and  Liverpool.

Boehly means business.
