Chelsea fans have long questioned Romelu Lukaku’s commitment, but nobody has questioned his intelligence.
The striker is clearly a very clever bloke, and he’s proving it again this summer with his transfer activity.
Lukaku sacked his agent earlier this year, and is negotiating his own transfer, with the help of a lawyer.
This is pretty unprecedented in modern football, according to Lecce sporting director Panatelo Corvino.
“In football back in the day, until the end of the 1980s, the directors spoke directly with players. Today this is not possible – a footballer alone does not have the skills to do so,” Corvino said in quotes translated by SempreInter.
“In modern contracts there are clauses, add-ons, image rights, it’s unthinkable for a player to represent himself,” he added.
Corvino went on to point out what’s odd about the situation – it was Lukaku’s agent who organised the monster money move to Chelsea in the first place, earning his client colossal cash.
Now he’s out, and Lukaku is engineering his return on his own. What a mess this has turned out to be for everyone – everyone except Inter, of course.
