Then suddenly, since preseason began, we’ve seen a flurry of activity, concluding in today’s reports that the striker has left Chelsea’s preseason group with a £30m bid from West Ham hovering.
Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard has moved quickly to try and add exclusive details to those earlier stories, writing this afternoon that the striker has “asked to leave” Chelsea in search of full time first team opportunities.
He had pretty much concluded that that was the case once it was clear he wanted to go – he’s briefing the media so he must also have told the club – but the fact that he’s now briefing that he’s told the club shows how hard he’s pushing.
