The Telegraph‘s Matt Law is well connected at Chelsea, and when he says something, we listen.
Today he’s talking about Billy Gilmour’s demotion to the U23 squad after Thomas Tuchel demoted the midfielder by saying he wasn’t going to end up with any minutes with the senior team.
Gilmour wants game time so he can get a good loan, and presumably set himself up for a future away from Chelsea after another season where they didn’t even want to give him a go.
Law adds that they will be “careful” with their selection of destination, after a season where Gilmour ended up on the end of a lot of abuse from Norwich fans.
That shows the perils of playing for a team threatened by relegation. Perhaps a dominant team in a smaller league would help him shine – although we thought that same thing with Ethan Ampadu at RB Leipzig and it didn’t work out for him either.
