Chelsea agree personal terms with Nathan Ake

Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Nathan Ake, with the Blues desperate to try and start the process of replacing their two departed central defenders.

There had been some rumours for weeks about how the Blues wanted a Premier League experienced central defender, and with Ake available at around £45m, a deal seems close.

That goes alongside a parallel negotiation with Man City for Raheem Sterling, which is a deal that’s even closer to being done. It lends more credence to the idea we first heard yesterday, that Chelsea want to announce a double deal from City simultaneously.

Ake was at Chelsea for several years in the youth team, so they know him well. He’s versatile, adjusted to the Premier League, has plenty of quality and isn’t ridiculously expensive. There’s plenty of sense to it.

Selling him for cheap and then buying him back is pretty bad business – but it’s also pretty Chelsea business for you.
