Chelsea force Barca’s hand with big bid for winger

Chelsea’s move for Raphinha looks to finally be over, with Barcelona bowing to Leeds’ demands for the winger’s transfer fee.

The Catalan club were insisting until today that they were going to be able to keep Ousmane Dembele as well as signing the fresh winger, but today’s Mundo Deportivo claims that that’s false.

They say that in reality – as seemed inevitable – Barca will now withdraw the offer they have on the table for Dembele. There had been talk of that before Raphinha, and now those calls will only grow louder.

It’s not just a question of finances of course, it’s a question of squad balance, and with their whole team still in need of major changes, doubling down on similar wingers doesn’t seem like the smartest move.

Of course, if they club are able to free up money from another sell off of their TV rights, there’s no telling what they might be bale to afford.
