Footage of Chelsea’s training session today in the United States is filtering out, and that’s leading to some interesting new facts about the season becoming clear.
Squad numbers can always change later on – especially if there are sales. But for now there are some assigned digits that could go on to be significant.
Conor Gallagher has been given 15, which makes sense for a central midfielder who isn’t in the established primary group – not yet, anyway.
Some Chelsea pre-season squad numbers:

Raheem Sterling – 1ï¸âƒ£7ï¸âƒ£

Kalidou Koulibaly has been given 26, a storied number for Chelsea central defenders of course.
Raheem Sterling picks up 17, with his favoured 7 taken by N’Golo Kante. That’s a nice versatile number for a versatile right winger.
There could yet be departures from the attacking areas too, so don’t buy your shirt just yet. But we’re a big fan of all three of these choices so far, and it certainly hints that Gallagher is a first team player now.
