Chelsea intend to appoint sporting director – maybe too late

Chelsea will appoint a new sporting director before the end of the year, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his exclusive column for Caughtoffside, the transfer insider has claimed that the Blues are determined to bring in an experienced leader for their transfer business

The struggles of Todd Boehly in charge of the whole affair in this summer so far will likely only have strengthened their resolve to get someone experienced in to oversee business and scouting from a top down level.

Former Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards has seemingly already turned down the chance to come and work at Stamford Bridge.

Former PSG defender Maxwell is another name on the shortlist, as we heard a few months ago, but it seems that Boehly’s focus on bring in new players is delaying his decision making on bringing in new sporting directors.

Perhaps he has it all the wrong way around?
