Details of Chelsea’s Lewandowski interest revealed by insider

Nick Purewal has just taken over as the Associated Press’ Chelsea correspondent, but he’s clearly not been hanging around – he’s already dropping very detailed and confident updates about details of our transfer interest.

His latest Tweet is about Robert Lewandowski, who wants to leave Bayern Munich. Purewal says that Chelsea and their manager Thomas Tuchel would “jump at the chance” to sign the forward, but are not including it as part of their overall strategy – it seems like it’s more of a bonus, and their focus is on getting another Raheem Sterling-style versatile forward in.

The plans to sign Lewandowski are “separate” from their other recruitment plans.

It’s interesting to hear that signing another winger/forward type is so important to them, considering they’re so badly short of a couple of central defenders.

Surely adding a centre back matters more than another winger to our crop of mediocrity in those positions?

In fact, wouldn’t signing a striker like Lewandowksi be more important than signing another winger?
