“It would be the highlight of my life” – Ben Chilwell on his big aim for this season

Ben Chilwell has an interesting interview in The Telegraph today, where he talks about his desire to get back into the England setup after a devastating injury cut his season short last time out.

Before that he was battling with Luke Shaw to be the Three Lions’ number one, and he says that going to the World Cup in Qatar this winter would be a great highlight for him.

“It would be the highlight not just of my career, but of my life. Over the next three or four months I am just going to do everything that I can to try to make sure that is my spot,” the left back said.

Of course, if he wants to get back into the England reckoning and become Gareth Southgate’s first choice, that all starts with good form for Chelsea.

And setting himself up for that good form starts now, in preseason in the USA. If he starts well now, there’s no reason he can’t ramp up and be Gareth Southgate’s number one by November.

He’s got the quality, and hopefully with a few months under his belt to build up his form and fitness
