Bayern Munich have just been thrown into the chase for Matthijs de Ligt by Florian Plettenberg, the Sky Sports Germany reporter who covers Bayern and is well connected at the club.
He writes that Bayern are keen on the Juventus centre back, and that the player is more keen to go there than Chelsea, who made the Dutch international their top target.
The Blues are still apparently “confident” of getting a deal done just because they feel they can come closer to Juve’s huge €80m asking price. But De Ligt was “impressed” in talks with Bayern Munich manager Julien Nagelsmann.
🚨Exclusive News De Ligt: Bayern wants him & #deLigt wants to join Bayern! Talks with Nagelsmann & Salihamidzic impressed him! Negotiations between Bayern/Juve have started. Talks are good. But: He‘s very expensive. Transfer fee expected between €60-80m. @SkySports @Sky_Marc 🇳🇱

This is now a very perilous situation for Chelsea, who lost two central defenders this summer and so far have signed none. If De Ligt goes elsewhere, with the deal for Jules Kounde looking to have been intercepted by Barcelona, the Blues are going to find themselves really desperate for options.
