Chelsea played their second friendly of preseason last night, and while two full teams were used, there were also four players who missed out.
After the game, Thomas Tuchel gave an update on the fitness of the group who missed out. His extensive post match interview was recorded on the Chelsea official website.
First up was Timo Werner, who Tuchel said “had some hamstring problems” and so wasn’t risked.
Next up was Cesar Azpilicueta, who was out of the squad entirely and whose absence raised eyebrows given the interest from Barcelona in the full back.
Tuchel insisted that this was just a knock from training.
Kepa Arrizabalaga had “some pain” that was disturbing him, so he didn’t get a chance in goal in the second half, while Ross Barkley also apparently had a hamstring issue, which Tuchel described as a “discomfort”.
Overall, it doesn’t sound like there’s much to worry about at all, and all of them could play in our next game.
