West Ham set to sign £30m target after “collapse” of Armando Broja deal

West Ham are close to signing Gianluca Scamacca, according to various sources including top insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Hammers have been desperate to conclude a deal for a forward all summer, and as recently as a couple of weeks ago they were being heavily  linked with Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

But this deal seems to have ended their interest in the Chelsea man – and indeed Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg, who is a Hammers fan as well as the man who covers Chelsea for the paper, says that move has “collapsed” in his piece today on the club’s transfer business.

Many fans will be pretty happy about that. They wanted to see the academy product given a chance in the first team, not sold off like so many of his talented peers in recent years.

He’s not likely to be first choice, but he should get plenty of minutes through the season.
