Barcelona are closing in on Celta left back to leave Alonso in the cold

Barcelona are pursuing a strong interest in Javi Galan of Celta Vigo, according to a report in AS today.

What does that have to do with Chelsea? Well, Galan is a left back, and the moves for him seem to indicate that there’s been a cooling of their interest in Marcos Alonso.

When the Spaniard was left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Tottenham two weeks ago, it looked like it would be a matter of days before we saw him registered with the Catalan club.

But the bids for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have complicated things, and Barca’s continued inability to register even the players they’ve already bought, let alone new ones, makes signing a relatively expensive Premier League option appear a little less tempting.

The article maintains they’re still more keen on Alonso, but moves for Galan as an alternative are in motion for if the deal doesn’t happen.
