Chelsea and Leicester still £10m apart in Fofana talks

Chelsea do not want to pay more than £70m including add ons for Wesley Fofana, while Leicester want more than the £80m they got for Harry Maguire in 2019.

That’s the state of play in this particular transfer saga, according to the Athletic.

It’s a big gap, and you can see why the talks have rather ground to a halt.

But on the other hand, there was always going to be a bit of a freeze over at this point. Leicester weren’t keen to let their defender go in time to play Chelsea, so they were always going to slow talks down this week.

After the two teams play each other this weekend, we expect a resumption of serious movement. Ten million is a lot of money, but in the end it probably serves both sides to get a deal done now, and they each only have to budge £5m to make it happen.
