With the news today that Chelsea’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang offer is falling apart, and with the results we’ve had in recent weeks plus the closing of the transfer window, we’ve been expecting some panicky last minute offers for attackers – we think we’ve just had the first.
Mike Verweij, who is well connected in Dutch football and has broken plenty of the Man U transfer news this window, has reported that the Blues have bid €50m for Edson Alvarez of Ajax.

The player wants the move – as you’d expect – with the chance to play in the Premier League enough to turn most players’ heads.
Whether this will be enough money to bring the striker in remains to be seen – the Dutch champions just rinsed Man U for €100m for Anthony, and they will likely be hoping to do the same with Chelsea for Alvarez.
Whatever happens, it seems we’re in for an exciting last 24 hours of the transfer window, as expected.
