Chelsea may not end up signing Rafael Leao – in fact it seems very unlikely at this stage – but their interest in creating ripples across Europe which may well have big consequences down the line.
SempreMilan report that the Blues’ interest, which was faint earlier in the summer but looks increasingly concrete now – has led to the winger increasing his demands in his ongoing transfer negotiations.
He’s on a net salary of €1.5m at the moment, and wants to more than TRIPLE that to €7m a season, according to this report.
That puts new Milan owner Gerry Cardinale in a tough position. He wants announce himself with a big extension for an important player like Leao. He certainly doesn’t want to start his ownership by selling off a key attacking star.
But he also can’t be forced into paying over the odds on a major contract that could end up being a burden.

I am unhappy with Chelsea’s recruitment team. For a long time they keep talking about players they intend to recruit but never end up doing so. They take too long making decisions. Motivation of players already on roll seem demotivated. What is the problem? After some time, some end up being sold to other clubs and they perform very well! Others are never given opportunity to showcase their talents and eventually get wasted! Management need to do something urgently to avoid demoralising our support base. We love the team but due to poor motivation, indecision and player/coach interelations need to be improved. Otherwise, Chelsea is a team to go places. Please, do not let us down. Let’s go Chelsea. We love you.
